ACTIVISTS PROMISE JAIL OVER HYDRO POWER LINES Excerpted from an uncomfirmed statement sent to the NFN: BANGOR, ME--Activists in Maine met today with Public Relations manager, Bill Cohen of Bangor Hydro to show the video "Voices From the Garden" concerning the destruction of James Bay by Hydro- Quebec (HQ) and its hydroelectric mega power projects. The activists also protested the construction of the Saint Marguerite III Project (SM3) now underway that is met with a peace camp and blockade on km. 23 of an access road to that project near the north shore of the St. Lawrence River. The activists present told Cohen, that although they would like to work with him and to resolve the conflict of powerlines slated to be built through Maine that presumambly carry HQ power, they are vehemently opposed to the powerlines. It was reported today to the Native Forest Network (NFN) that a spokesperson against the lines stated to Cohen that they would "be like a hornet on you. We will sting you all over. You will have to throw me in jail, him in jail, her in jail; the powerlines WILL NOT be built." The opponents of the powerline said that Cohen is running for a Maine state representative position and admitted that HQ has invited him to see the area in question and walk the land.
