Perry,
The normal IP model does not call for a host to communicate
with other that the local router, except in case of error messages
(ICMP) returned by these routers. While the development of mobile IP
opens the way to make changes in our basic model, it may not be
appropriate to require hosts to be cognizant of intermediate routers,
especially considering the possibility of changes to the topology. A
digitally signed object, asserting the link between a (mobile) host
and the net that is currently serving that host, can be validated by
any router, without requiring the host to know which routers might
have to perform the validation.
