Re the EFF/CDT Letter on 3X DES vs NSA Alternative ..  Is it reasonable
to infer that the use of open encryption standards has to do with the free
movement of commerce across international boundaries .. like EFTs of money
and the ability to trade easily and cost effectively with our international
neighbors VICE having a very costly and difficult process moving money to
pay for goods/trade across international borders ?

Think I saw some of that on recent travels and in conversations with folks
who bank in other countries.  It would almost seem ambiguous at best to 
interfere with free trade and exchange and at the same time claim to promote
it.  

If this is a horribly naive notion, please, calibrate me.
