IPsec mailing list

[co-chair hat on]

The IPsec WG mailing list is open to any and all discussion on the
IETF's IP Security proposals.

While Bill's efforts to herd and focus the discussion of Photuris
might be useful, people ought not feel inhibited from posting topics
that are outside the scope of what Bill views as current if the
poster really believes it is important.

[co-chair hat off, begin personal comments]

Now I don't know about other folks, but I find Hugo's most recent
notes on Photuris to be impenetrable. It would be MUCH more useful
if it were made a stand-alone note based on the most recent online
version of Photuris, provided specific cites to the parts of that
draft that are being objected to, and ecxplained the particulars on
how to exploit any claimed vulnerabilities.

If the complaints are editorial (that is, relating mostly to wording
or clarity), then it would be more useful to propose specific revised
text (as others already have been doing). Those folks who provided me
with specific text changes tothe ESP/AH drafts (e.g. Hilarie Orman)
generally found that those changes were taken before the RFCs were
published. This is simply because it is MUCH easier as an editor to
make specific changes than to figure out which part of the current text
is confusing and how to make it less confusing.
