Photuris Chapters 5 to 7
I have one more review promised me by tomorrow for 1-4. I think I'm
ready to take comments on Chapters 5 through 7, while I get the new
draft done over the weekend.
Also, there is a minor item that folks ought to note. Originally,
Photuris was intended to be published as Experimental. The WG Chairs
decided that they wanted official WG review for possible Proposed
Standard publication.
Indeed, WG review effected some significant changes, which were
suggested by implementors. In this case, adding AH and ESP on the same
ports in the middle of the Photuris exchange worked fine on one
platform, but was difficult on a couple of others. And so, we
reorganized the messages and added explicit Privacy and Validity fields.
Wide implementation experience on multiple platforms is often very
helpful. But that's also true of Experimental, and would likely have
happened in the normal course of events.
However, most of the feedback _on_ this list has been one very verbose
naysayer. Unless other members of the WG indicate to the Chairs that
they desire to see this published as a Standards' Track protocol, I am
quite content to stay with Experimental. For one thing, I won't have
the extra grief, and publication can be that much sooner.
So, while you ponder the wording of 5-7, also indicate whether you wish
this published as Experimental or Proposed Standard. Thanks.
