Sorry.  I meant about 1 MByte (still slow).  Using a pure
C implementation by Richard Outbridge (D3DES) I am getting
about 0.9 Mbytes on a Pentium Pro 200 Mhz. Your numbers seem
to indicate a speedup of 2x is possible (still quite slow).
