Anyone worried about jail had better read the new Bureau of Export
Administration rules (see http://www.bxa.doc.gov/encstart.htm).
Unless you get a license, you can't even export ROT-X where X is
user-definable. The only 40-bit license available is for RC4. So the
only way to legally export 40-bit DES today is to get permission to
export 56-bit DES. How is 40-bit DES still critical in that
environment? Does anyone on this list have actual customers who are
only able to import 40-bit DES? Enough to put anyone out of a job?
