I would prefer to call it portable, not mobile. I agree with you that
the need for Mobility in early 1998 is limited, but I am convinced that
this will change within the next 2 years as technologies such as GSM
(among others) become ubiquitous. 

Many predict that everyone will have GSM to their homes instead of land
lines. Once this occurs, the need for Mobility will become much more
obvious.

If we ignore the need for Mobility and simple abuse an already
complicated protocol, we will simply make integration of mobility into
everyone's lives much more complicated.
