RE: Interoperability (was: Death to AH?)



At one point someone was also asking for 40-bit DES and it was decided that
these deficient key lengths were best specified by a separate transform ID
(and ideally instead of assigning a specific transform ID change the DOI to
have a private use range).  I'm sure we're all glad that the working group
did not buckle into political pressure to make providing weakened
cryptography a standard.

SOme have asked for this for use in France where the limit is still 128
bits.

And that is the problem with negotiating up.  there might be legal 
restrictions   :(
