Re: Any firm plans for another Bakeoff?

[wearing my hat of a long-time individual on the bakeoff
steering committee]

A word of caution: it *is* only February.

Having watched the CalBUG folks sweat the registration
numbers, etc., at the past several bakeoffs: you'd be surprised
at how many companies (even big ones) don't decide, or get
their act together, until close to the last minute. A lot of
times it's a function of product schedules and availability
of engineers.

[It gets especially stressful if the hotel is demanding that
a certain number of rooms are booked as a condition of
getting their ballroom, etc., for a week. This forces CalBUG
to set aside several thousand dollars to pay the hotel in
case the bookings aren't met. So far we've always made
it, but it's a nail-biter until the last minute.]

Holding it overseas will probably force decisions to be
made sooner. But given past history, it's probably still
too early to get anything that's accurate.
