I suggest that we should make one good general-purpose protocol work well
(today's IKE does not satisfy this desire in a number of ways) before we
start considering a plethora of specialized variants. 

If dim memory serves, there were many cries about how TCP would not meet
everyone's needs, and how there were conflicting requirements, and etc. 
etc. etc... but in fact TCP really does meet *most* people's needs, even
if it is not precisely optimal in many cases.
