NAT-Traversal

Hi all,
I think NAT - Traversal fails if user configures IKE with Main mode and 
Authentication method as
Preshared keys.
Since user don't know if there is a NAT enroute, he might configure IKE 
with main mode and preshared keys, and now, if IKE tries to do 
NAT-traversal or IKE detects NAT, How to proceed?
