Re: whether or not this discussion applies to ICMPv6 (as well as ICMPv4)....

I just checked the ICMPv6 spec (RFC2463) and didn't see anything that 
should cause problems.  So I think the proposed approach should work 
for ICMPv6 too.  Comments/corrections?  (Thanks go to Rich Graveman 
for reminding us about ICMPv6)
