Angola's Cunene Faces Severe Drought
June 22, 1998
LUANDA, Angola (PANA) - A commission has been created to propose
appropriate measures for combating the effects of severe drought in the
southern
Angolan province of Cunene.
The multi-sectorial commission, created under a decree signed last Friday
by Prime Minister Franca Van-Dunem, comprises representatives from the
ministry of agriculture, land planning, public works and town planning.
Also involved are those dealing with planning, social assistance and
rehabilitation, environment, trade and the cabinet secretariat.
The commission is required, within 30 days, to submit an indepth report on
the prevailing situation in Cunene, which shares borders with Namibia, so
as
to prevent a disaster.
