      Zambezi's level 'cause for concern'

KATIMA MULILO - NamWater Regional Officer Albert Musweu has appealed
to residents at
Katima Mulilo to use water wisely as the level of the Zambezi river
is dropping.

The level of the river was down from 2,88 metres the previous week to
below 2,50 metres by the
      beginning of last week.

At the same time last year levels dropped from 2,74 metres to 2,28 metres.

Musweu said people using water from the Zambezi, especially those
along the river and residents of
Katima Mulilo, experienced difficulties with water every year.

It was therefore advisable if they learned in advance to use water
wisely so that they did not end up
facing another water crisis this year, he added.

Sources told Nampa over the weekend that some areas in the eastern
Caprivi which have been
flooded this year have how started drying up - to the extent that
vehicles can reach places like
Nakabolelwa, 80 kilometres east of Katima Mulilo.

However, the sources said, difficulties were still being experienced
along the road to
Schuckmansburg, where the water is still said to be high.

Schuckmansburg is in the far east of the Caprivi region, close to the
Namibia-Zambia and
      Namibia-Botswana borders. - Nampa
