Cameroun water crisis
Water rationing is being imposed in the Cameroun capital,
Yaounde, because of
faults in the supply which developed several weeks ago.
The city is being divided into three sectors, each of which
will receive water on
three days a week.
Reports say the problem is a fracture in the pipeline south
of Yaounde which the
Cameroun water authority lacks the technological capacity to
repair. The system
was built by a Canadian company which no longer operates in
Cameroun.
Correspondents say some Yaounde citizens have begun using
other, less-safe
sources of water, and there are fears of possible epidemics
of diarrhoea or typhoid.
