dam-l LS: Patrick McCully to Talk at Columbia Uni Nov. 1

Sorry if this email message has already been sent out to you. May I ask
you to forward to other people who might be interested in the event.

Patrick McCully of the International Rivers Network will be presenting a
slide show followed by a discussion on the Narmada River Valley agitation
regarding the construction of dams, displacement of people, and endangering
the environment.

Patrick McCully is a veteran activist and speaker who has worked on
related issues internationally. He currently has an appointment with the
International Rivers Network.

Currently, the Sardar Sarovar Project, in India, is
estimated to displace 250,000 people. To date, the state has not made
provisions for comprehensive rehabilitation for the flood victims. Their
plight has attracted Booker Prize-winning novelist Arundhati Roy to write
about the issue of dams and development in India.

The talk and slide show will be held on November 1, 1999 (Monday) at 7
p.m. in Room E567 in the Alfred Lerner Hall at Columbia University.

The Narmada Solidarity Coalition of NYC would like to invite you to this
event in the hope that you will be interested in contributing to our efforts
to use the resources of New York City to strengthen the people's struggle in
the valley.
