U.N. gives dlrs 4.2 million in food aid for Laos
BANGKOK, Thailand (AP) -- The United Nations World Food
Program has given dlrs 4.2 million in food aid to Laos for
a three-year project to get villagers help build roads and
dams, the KPL Laotian state news agency reported Friday.
Villagers will be given food in return for labor on
infrastructure development and extending rice fields in
Luang Namtha, Xieng Khouang, Khammouane, Savannakhet,
Attopeu and Sekong provinces, said KPL, monitored in

Laos, a rural nation in Southeast Asia of under five
million people, is one of the world's poorest countries and
is heavily dependent on foreign aid.
