dam-l item concerning mozambique

I am passing this along on the list as there has been a tie
established between construction of aluminum processing
plants and hydroelectric plants to power them as they
are very energy intensive and this item may be of interest
to some on the list.

cheers!

 Aluminium production in Mozambique

An international consortium has begun producing aluminium
at its new foundry in Mozambique, six months earlier than
                  scheduled.

The British mining group Billiton said today that the
foundry is
expected to reach its full capacity of a quarter of a million
tons of aluminium in the first quarter of next year.

Billiton's partners at the foundry, at Mozal, are the
                  Mozambique government, Industrial Development Cooperation
of South Africa, and the Japanese group Mitsubishi.
