ISLAMABAD, Oct 12: Food and Agriculture Minister Shafqat
Shah Jamote has resigned and the resignation has been accepted by the
chief executive, Gen Pervez Musharraf.
Sources said on Thursday that Mr Jamote had resigned due
to his differences with the government over various issues, including
the construction of Kalabagh dam.
The government had quietly shelved the project, but the
CE's remarks at his press conference in Lahore on Tuesday that the
government had not backed down on the Kalabagh dam, provoked Mr
Jamote.
"Yes. Mr Jamote has resigned," confirmed a senior
official of the ministry. He said Mr Jamote had his own views on
various issues and he had been projecting himself as protector of the
rights of Sindh.
