The quest for safe drinking water is, according to this story, leading some
farmers to pipelines.
Darrell Corkal, co-ordinator of the Prairie Farm Rehabilitation
Administration's water quality research unit, was cited as saying that
tapping into a water pipeline that is already servicing a community or
industry can be a good option, because the water is usually treated and the
supply is guaranteed.
The connection cost is a factor. It can be as high as $25,000.
Corkal was quoted as saying, "There's no way around this. The cost of
infrastructure is real."
But the cost is not always more than putting in a proper treatment system
from a dugout or well source.
And, there is funding available from PFRA and sometimes from other
federal-provincial programs.
