La policía interrumpió la protesta pacífica anti-Represa en Honduras

Tegucigalpa, Honduras. 18 de julio de 2001. Aproximadamente una tropa de
cincuenta miembros de la Policía Nacional cayeron sobre el Palacio
Legislativo a las 12.30 del mediodía para sacar por la fuerza a 300
manifestantes pacíficos que se encontraban en el lugar. La policía usaba
escudos y bastones para empujar a los manifestantes fuera desde debajo de la
recova del Capitolio y hacia la plaza frente al vecino Museo Nacional de
Arte. Los manifestantes chocaron por unos instantes con la policía,
utilizando trozos de madera, pero pronto soltaron la madera por orden de los
líderes de la protesta.
Los manifestantes habían estado acampando debajo del edificio del Capitolio
desde que habían marchado hacia la capital hondureña el 4 de julio para
protestar legalmente por las irregularidades y la brutalidad utilizada por
parte de la compañía de energía Energisa, que se encuentra en manos privadas
y que está tratando de construir una represa de 4.4 megawatts en la zona
limítrofe de Sierra del Parque Nacional Agalta. Los manifestantes demandan
por el retiro de Energisa de la municipalidad de Gualaco en el departamento
de Olancho en la parte este de Honduras.  Ellos también demandan que se
realice una investigación exhaustiva del asesinato del líder comunitario
Carlos Roberto Flores de 29 años, realizado por seis guardias de seguridad
de Energisa.
El intendente de Gualaco Rafael Jesús Ulloa denunció al de Ministro de
Seguridad de Guatama, Fonseca, por la decisión de remover a los
manifestantes del Capitolio. También se quejo sobre la falta de apoyo del
gobierno central a la municipalidad rural desde la llegada inicial de
Energisa en 1994.
"Las Organizaciones No Gubernamentales Internacionales necesitan saber que
nuestros derechos han sido violados en Olancho. Energisa nunca consultó a la
municipalidad antes de comenzar la construcción de este proyecto de la
represa, y el gobierno central no ha hecho nada  para apoyar a nuestra
comunidad ante esta amenaza."
A los 210 manifestantes de Gualaco, Olancho, se le sumaron esta semana más
de 80 miembros del Consejo de Organizaciones Populares Indígenas y Civiles
de Honduras (COPINH), una organización fundamentalmente dedicada a los
derechos de los Indios Lenca que se adhirió solidariamente con los
manifestantes de Olancho. Cándido Martínez, el vocero de los 80 miembros del
contingente de COPINH, prometió que alrededor de 10.000 Lencas  estarían
llegando al final de esa semana para ofrecer su apoyo al contingente de
Gualaco, así como también como observar el Día de Lempira (Día del Orgullo
Indígena de Honduras) en honor del martirizado Jefe Lenca, el día 20 de
julio.
Los observadores especulan que la remoción forzada de los manifestantes
estaría relacionada a las visitas oficiales de los delegados de la
Organización de Estados Americanos (OAS) y por funcionarios de alto rango
Taiwaneses.
