Nuclear Institute of Agriculture to promote farm bases on saline water
RECORDER REPORT
.......HYDERABAD : The Nuclear Institute of Agriculture (NIA), Tando Jam,
will soon launch a programme for promotion of agriculture bases on saline
water irrigation, particularly in the districts of Larkana, Shikarpur,
Jacobabad, Thatta and Badin with the assistance of Sindh Agriculture
Department.
.......This was disclosed during the visit of the provincial secretary for
agriculture, livestock and fisheries, Abdul Rashid Memon, to NIA at Tando
Jam. The saline agriculture technology will be demonstrated at various
locations of farmers' fields in these areas, the NIA experts said.
.......The secretary offered the land and facilities of Agriculture
Research, Extension and Livestock farms in these areas for demonstrational
saline farming and hoped that this will bring more land under productive
agriculture with available sub-soil water resources and highly saline soils.
.......During his visit to Sindh Agriculture Research Institute, Tando Jam,
the secretary emphasised the need for serious work on genetic diversity,
biotechnology and preservation of germ plasmas of all varieties.
