Dear Colleagues:

I'm happy to release the preliminary program for the Fourth Water
Information Summit (WIS-4). Attached you will find a copy. This years
program includes speakers from 11 different countries, many of which have
not been represented at previous Summits. Besides informative paper and
poster presentations and the working group sessions, which in previous
years have provided lively and beneficial discussion, we have added three
panel discussions to promote the unrestricted exchange of ideas and
experiences.

I strongly encourage you to consider attending WIS-4. This year?s Summit
promises to once again be truly international and present an excellent
opportunity to bring the worldwide water community together through
information sharing. The presentations, panel discussions, and working
groups will surely help us in our efforts to disseminate water and
environmental information, and the conference will provide excellent
opportunities for networking.

Below is the meeting announcement. Complete information and on-line
registration can be found through the WaterWeb site at:
http://www.waterweb.org/wis/wis4/

Regards,
Fourth Water Information Summit
Program Committee

Fourth Water Information Summit
Internet-Based Mechanisms and Partnerships to Build Virtual Capacity for
Sustainable Water Resources Management
Panama City, Panama, October 25-27, 2001

Water Information Summits bring together water information users,
specialists, and webmasters to explore ways of improving the quality of
information and making better use of the Internet to share information with
the public, water organizations, and across borders.

The Fourth Summit will be held in conjunction with a meeting of the Central
Environment Commission, a ministerial level conference, and the Water Fair
for Central America and the Caribbean. WIS-4 will be hosted by the Water
Center the Humid Tropics of Latin America and the Caribbean (CATHALAC,
http://www.cathalac.org) and the National Environmental Authority (ANAM) of
Panam?. There will be opportunities to visit the Panam? Canal locks and
other water-related projects.

IW:LEARN will be conducting their International Waters Web Site Developers'
Workshop right after the Summit. The workshop will be lead by a training
team with over six years of experience developing Web-based water
information systems for projects across the Americas and African Great
Lakes regions. See the program for more information.
