Power Politics
by Arundhati Roy

In her latest work, Power Politics, Arundhati Roy, the internationally
acclaimed author of The God of Small Things, explores the politics of
writing and the human and environmental costs of development.

"Arundhati Roy combines her brilliant style as a novelist with her powerful
commitment to social justice in producing these eloquent, penetrating
essays," writes historian Howard Zinn.

Roy challenges the idea that only experts can speak out on such urgent
matters as nuclear war, the privatization of India's power supply by
U.S.-based energy companies, and the construction of monumental dams that
will dislocate millions of people.

Roy also describes the legal challenges she has faced after the tremendous
international success of her novel, winner of the prestigious Booker Prize.
Because of her vocal activism and criticism of the government, Roy faces a
contempt of court case in India, and could be sentenced to six months in
jail in late October.

Arundhati Roy was trained as a an architect at the Delhi School of
Architecture. She is the author of The God of Small Things (HarperCollins)
and The Cost of Living (Modern Library).

Available in the United States and Canada only.
