The Kano State government has earmarked N410m for the construction of 
Kafin Chiri dam. The dam will be second only to Challawa dam, in 
terms of size and capacity. This is aimed at ensuring uninterrupted 
water supply in the state.
Alhaji Kabir Jibril, managing director of Water Resources and 
Engineering Construction Agency (WRECA), a government parastatal, 
said the money "will enable the government through WRECA to effect a 
total overhaul of the dam which acts as a major source of water 
supply to the teeming populace in Kano."
He called for patience by the people as regards the intermittent 
water supply, assuring that "it will be better for all of us if a 
permanent solution is arrived at, rather than an ad hoc approach."
He said that in furtherance to the realization of this goal the 
government divided the water project into "greater Kano one and two." 
For greater one, 600mm, 450mm and 400mm ductile pipes are being laid, 
while for greater Kano two, 250mm, 150mm, and 100mm ductile pipes are 
laid.
