One World Film Festival

November 19, 1997

Dear Friends,

You may not be able to attend the APEC People's Summit in Vancouver - but
you can hear about the issues and concerns being addressed - right here in
Ottawa! We have the films, and special appearances by producers!!

Please consider this as your personal (sort of!) invitation to join us as
World Inter-Action Mondiale celebrates it's 25th year as an active, local,
non-profit, charitable, environment and development organization working for
civil society, human rights and a sustainable, tolerant and just planet.

Together, there's much we can do to make a difference.

Best wishes,

Laurie Gourlay

HERE IS A SNEAK PREVIEW OF VIDEOS AND FILMS TO BE FEATURED AT
THE EIGHTH ANNUAL ONE WORLD FILM FESTIVAL!

MIGRANTE: STORIES AND SONGS OF FILIPINO MIGRANT WORKERS
   - (A film by Nancy Nichol, Canada; 1997; 78min.) A beautifully patterned
quilt of political songs, group conversations and individual interviews. It
is a powerful story that connects foreign domination of the homeland. It
tells a story of mass Filipino migration to degrading, and sometimes
dangerous, employment in Canada - people anxious to extricate themselves and
their families from endless personal and national poverty. And, importantly,
MIGRANTE is a story of education, organization and resistance.

CRY OF THE FORGOTTEN LAND:
(Produced by the Endangered Peoples Project and Gryphon Productions,
USA, 1995, 26min.) This prize-winning film reveals the little known
destruction of one of the world's greatest remaining rainforests, home to
over 100,000 species found nowhere else. Massive logging and a politically
repressive regime are wiping out the rainforest of Indonesian New Guinea,
the second largest island on earth. For over 2500 years the Moi people lived
in harmony with these rainforests. Now, their very existence hangs in the
balance as the rainforest that has sustained them is being rapidly eliminated.

INSIDE BURMA - LAND OF FEAR:
	(A film by John Pilger, U.K., 1996, 60min.)
This film dcuments life inside Burma under SLORC, the country's repressive
military dictatorship - with a focus on human rights abuses and violations.
It also examines some supporters of the regime, including a small-time U.S.
investor who runs a tourist operation. He attempts to defend SLORC; but, as
the interview demonstrates, the regime is indefensible.

BANGS:
(A film by Carolynne Hew; Canada; 1990, 8min.)
An offbeat comedy about a young Chinese Canadian girI obsessed with her
large egg-like forehead. Her fixation leads her from the daily battleground
of fancy hair products to the world of an overpriced Chinese reader, until
she finally faces her own demons.

	HOPE TO SEE YOU THERE!!!
