Between Iraq and a Hard Place:
Exploring new peace-building roles for Canada

As a follow-up to the peace vigils to express concern about war against
Iraq, the Ottawa Quakers and the Coalition to Oppose the Arms Trade
(COAT) are co-sponsoring a forum called Between Iraq and a hard place:
exploring new peace-building roles for Canada, on Sat., April 18, 1-4pm,
at First United Church, 397 Kent Street. Iraqi filmmaker Amira Elias of
Montreal will discuss the plight of Iraqi children under economic
sanctions. Local speakers will include: Louise Richard, president of
the Gulf War Veterans Association, who is suffering from Gulf War
Syndrome; Murray Thomson, a recipient of the Pearson Peace Metal and
executive director of Peacefund Canada, an organization which enables
small-scale conflict resolution and peace education around the world;
and, Richard Sanders, co-ordinator of the Coalition to Oppose the Arms
Trade and editor of the periodical Press for Conversion! For more
