Thu. Apr 30: Lands for Life protest (today!)

Protest: Lands for Life = Designs for Development?
-------------------------------------------------

* Thu. April 30, 6:30 pm
* Radisson Hotel, 100 Kent Street (between Queen & Sparks St.)

Join the protest at the Lands for Life public hearings, and help raise
awareness about the Harris government's plan to open up almost half of
Ontario to logging and mining.

The Lands for Life program affects 46 million hectares of public land, an
area the size of the Yukon - and includes some of Ontario's last-remaining
old-growth forests, in places such as the Algoma Highlands.

Contrary to what might be implied by the title of the program, only modest
increases in protection have been proposed. This should come as no
surprise, as the Lands for Life round tables include many people having
connections to logging and mining industries.

Please join the protest against this biased process, and help encourage
alternatives such as ecoforestry, ecotourism & tree-free fibres.
