20 June: AFRICA REFUGEE DAY
For the second year in a row, Mines Action Canada is helping to organise
Africa Refugee Day in Ottawa (20 June) with the UNHCR and a number of
African NGOs and community groups. The event is outlined in a flyer copied
below. Our own display will feature a mines awareness game built into a map
of Africa, with speakers on hand to explain from first-hand experience the
mine situation in a number of African regions.
Please circulate, post, put in your bulletins, post on your websites,
distribute at your events, and mark in your calendars.

Africa Refugee Day 1998
When? Saturday, June 20th, 1:00 to 6:00
Where? Courtyard, Canadian War Museum, 330 Sussex Drive, Ottawa
(take #3 bus east from Rideau Centre)
Come and experience life at a "Refugee Camp", listen to former refugees
talk about their experiences and join us for a day of
African dance and music,
theatre,
African art,
mini-bazaar,
activities and other attractions!
Africa Refugee Day has been celebrated throughout Africa for the past 20
years in a spirit of solidarity with refugees. In Ottawa, the general
public will be able to visit a mock refugee camp and meet refugees and
people who lived and worked in refugee camps. Come and join us for the many
shows and presentations put on by numerous African communities and
non-governmental organisations.

rencontrera des réfugiés et des personnes qui ont vécues et travaillées
dans les camps. Venez assister à l'un des nombreux spectacles et
présentations qui vous seront offerts par de nombreuses communautés
africaines et des organismes non-gouvernementaux.
