Topic: WOMEN AND GLOBALIZATION:THE GARMENT SECTOR 
	IN BANGLADESH

Host: South Asia Partnership Canada 

Mashuda Khatun Shefali is the Executive Director of the Nari Uddug Kendra
(NUK)- Centre for Women’s Initiatives- a development organization working
to promote women’s rights and gender equity in Bangladesh. Ms. Shefali
works with NUK advocating the rights of women in the workplace, including
the rights for housing and health. NUK has a number of projects targeted to
women in the garment sector, including a housing project, literary
training, health services and advocacy programs.

NUK recently completed a study, with the support of The North South
Institute and the Canadian International Development Agency, of women
garment workers’ health problems and needs in order to determine what
further interventions might be most productive. Ms. Shefali will be
speaking on the study and on her programs at NUK related to garment.
