Marc Ellis speaks in Ottawa (7 December)

Dissident Jewish Theologian, Marc Ellis, Speaks in Ottawa
on Israel/Palestine Conflict

Marc Ellis is a Jewish thinker who specializes in modern Judaism and
post-Holocaust thought. He is the author of eight books including Toward a
Jewish Theology of Liberation; Unholy Alliance: Religion and Atrocity in
Our Time and Beyond Innocence and Redemption: Confronting the Holocaust and
Israeli Power.

His outspoken solidarity with the Palestinian people has earned him both
scorn and praise. Noam Chomsky (MIT) has written that "Marc Ellis has
demonstrated great courage, integrity and insight in the very important
work he has been doing for years. It has been an inspiration for us all."

Edward Said (Columbia University) adds: "Marc Ellis is a brilliant writer,
a deeply thoughtful and courageous mind, an intellectual who has broken the
depth-hold of mindless tradition and unreflective cliché to produce a
superb account of post-Holocaust understanding, with particular reference
to the Palestinian people and the moral obligation of Israelis and diaspora
Jews. He is a man to be listened to with respect and admiration."

Currently Marc Ellis is head of the Jewish Studies Department at Baylor
University.
