Community Animator, Eastern Ontario
Ontario Healthy Communities Coalition

The Ontario Healthy Communities Coalition (OHCC) is a multi-sectoral group
of community initiatives and provincial associations established in order
to achieve the social, environmental and economic health and well-being of
communities throughout Ontario.  The goal of OHCC is to support communities
in developing the capacity to identify the factors that affect their health
and to work with local governments to take action to address these factors,
making optimal use of local resources. Healthy Communities is an approach
by which a community determines its own issues, processes, needs and intended
outcomes.  The coalition is seeking applications for the position of
Community Animator, Eastern Ontario.

Skills Required

The ideal candidate will be a highly personable individual with exceptional
interpersonal, communications and facilitation skills. The successful
candidate will possess a minimum of five years of professional Community
Animation/Facilitation experience; have demonstrated abilities in working
with and encouraging participation from a diversity of people and groups,
including community leaders, business, government representatives, general
public, and ethnoracial minority communities; have experience in working in
a variety of settings from municipal government meetings to grass-roots
activities; have experience in community development, community organizing,
and community-based project planning; possess strong consulting,
presentation and group facilitation skills; have experience with skills
training and train-the-trainer programs; and be a self-starter with the
ability to work independently, take initiative and assume responsibility
with minimal supervision. The position requires an individual with computer
literacy for word processing, database, email and internet systems; a
post-secondary degree, diploma or equivalent work experience; the ability
to travel, including overnight trips; and, knowledge and experience of the
Healthy Communities process and movement. Applicants must be fluent in
English and French; have experience working with networks and coalitions;
and be familiar with communities, organizations and municipalities in the
region. She/he should value working as part of a team in a flexible, highly
productive workplace and be comfortable in an environment of continuous
learning and change.

Salary:  This is a renewable contract position, full time, flexible,
initially for a 7-month contract. The salary range is $35,800 - $38,200. A
travel and expense allowance will be allocated in addition to the salary.

Location:  This is a home-based position in the Eastern region (Renfrew,
Lanark, Leeds & Grenville, Stormont, Dundas & Glengarry, Prescott &
Russell, Ottawa-Carleton). Applicants must have a well-equipped home
office, access
to a vehicle and a valid drivers licence. Community Animators must live in
the regions they serve.
