DAVIES MOTION ON HOMELESSNESS TO BE DEBATED IN HOUSE OF COMMONS

MP Libby Davies (Vancouver-East) and federal NDP Social Policy Spokesperson
has introduced a motion on homelessness that has been selected for debate in
the House of Commons.

The Motion (M-604) reads as follows:
That, in the opinion of this House, the government should adopt a national
housing strategy, that recognizes housing as a human right and meets the
goal of providing an additional 1% of federal budgetary spending to meet
basic housing needs in Canada.

The motion will receive at least one hour of debate - possibly as early as
the week of June 14. It could receive three hours of debate and be voted on
in the Fall, if we pass the next hurdle - which is getting it by a
parliamentary committee that examines the "worthiness" of MP’s motions and
bills. Either way, it’s an important motion and will demand an official
government response.

We need your help to rally support!

Please get anyone you can to e-mail or fax Liberal Homelessness Minister
Claudette Bradshaw to solicit her support for M-604. Ms. Bradshaw's e-mail
is bradsc@parl.gc.ca and her fax number is (613) 992-8083.
Also, please copy faxes or e-mails of support to Libby’s Ottawa office. Our
fax number is 613-995-7412 and our e-mail is daviel9@parl.gc.ca.

The louder our voices, the greater chance that we’ll achieve our common
goals!
