Position: Editor, The Activist

Location: National Office (Vanier)

The Editor is responsible for developing the overall 
content, design and production schedule for The Activist, 
Amnesty International Canada's membership newsletter, 
published 6 times per year. S/he will produce The
Activist with particular responsibility for editing the 
full publication, researching and writing much of each issue 
and coordinating writing assigned to others. This work will 
be carried out in ways which support and strengthen the 
activism of readers, enabling them to participate in the
on-going work of AI in Canada.

Requirements:

* University degree (BA or BJ) or certification in 
training appropriate to technical writing and editing
* At least three years experience in writing, editing, 
research and newsletter (or equivalent) production, 
preferably in a membership/volunteer and activist setting
* High level of competency in research, writing, 
proofreading, editing, layout, word processing and e-mail 
are essential
* Excellent understanding of and sensitivity to AI as an 
activist, membership-based organization
* Ability to work in a cooperative, collaborative manner 
with tact and diplomacy
* Excellent written and verbal communication
* Three years active involvement with AI is highly 
desirable

Length & Hours: This is a permanent, part-time position 
(20 hours per week), beginning 1 August 1999.

Salary: $21,700 - $22,400 (according to experience and 
non-negotiable)
