sat. august 21: demo: persistent organic pollutants (pops)

St. Lawrence Environmental Action will be having a
public-awareness raising event on Parliament Hill:

* Saturday, August 21 (rain date August 28),
10:45 am-12:45 pm

Learn about the effects of persistent organic pollutants (POPs), such as:
PCBs, dioxins, furans, hexachlorobenzene, DDT, aldrin, dieldrin, endrin,
chlordane, heptachlor, mirex and toxaphene. These chemicals are critical
environmental toxicants as a result of persistence, bio-accumulation,
bio-magnification and toxicity at low levels. Environmental health effects
include endocrine disruption, genetic damage, immune system suppression,
reproductive failures and behavioural abnormalities.

Issue briefs produced by the World Wildlife Fund and Physicians for Social
Responsibility will be available, and drummers and dancers are invited to
share their energy at this event.
