NOV 2nd - OLD GROWTH IN OUR BACKYARD

Old growth forests - large, old, rare and incredibly diverse. What
is left of these precious places? In Ontario & Quebec, many of these places
remain only in memory - there are only a few pockets of old growth still
standing, still struggling.

Thanks to the dedication of a few, and the support of many, there is
still hope for 2 stands of old growth within 100km of Ottawa - The Gillies
Grove and Centre Educatif Forestier de l'Outaouais (CEFO)

We have invited Mark Stabb of the Land Preservation Society of the
Ottawa Valley (LPSOV) to take us on a virtual tour of Gillies Grove, where
(based on measurements taken last year) the tallest White Pine in Ontario -
at over 50 feet - lives. And we have also invited Marie-Odile Junker of Les
Ami(e)s du CEFO, to speak on the ongoing campaign (a collaborative effort
between CPAWS and CEFO) to achieve legal protected area status for 2000
hectares of rare old-growth forest - the last of its kind in the Outaouais
