Manning Marable




"Beyond Black and White
Forging Alliances in the New Millennium”


In Celebration of Black History Month an address by Dr. Manning Marable,
Professor of History
and the  Founding Director of the Institute for Research in African-American
Studies at Columbia
University, will be delivered on  Thursday, February 10, 2000, in Fenn
Lounge on the Carleton
University campus.

Dr. Marable is author of twelve books and is perhaps the most widely read
black intellectual in the
United States. Since 1976, he has written “Along the Colour Line,” a
syndicated commentary series
on African-American politics and public affairs. The series is published in
325 newspapers and
magazines in the U.S., U.K., Canada, the Caribbean and India.

To begin the event there will be a reception with light entertainment and
refreshments from 5:00-
7:15pm. The lecture will commence at 7:15, followed by questions and
answers. Introductions will
be made by Michelle Falardeau-Ramsay, Q.C., Chief Commissioner (Canadian
Human Rights
Commission) and the honourable Hedy Fry, P.C., Secretary of State (Status of
Women/Multiculturalism).

This event is a community effort sponsored by 24 organizations and
businesses.
