Please circulate
PEÑA*
FOR
WILLIE MIRANDA AND THE FALLEN LABOUR LEADERS OF GUATEMALA
(* The Peña, a
Latin American custom, is an evening of music and solidarity.
For those in exile, the Peña was a place to bring the community
together)
SATURDAY, JUNE
17
Starting at
7:30pm
Church of the
Ascension, 253 Echo Drive
Ottawa,
Ontario
PERFORMANCES BY LOCAL LATIN AMERICAN
SINGERS
Background
On June 12, 1984, Willie Miranda,
Guatemalan poet and well known labour leader, brother of our dear friend
and compañero, Roberto Miranda, was assasinated by government forces. This
evening is intended to honour the memory of Willie as well the memory of the
revolutionary workers from the Guatemalan Central Worker's sindicate, who were
dissapeared on June 21, 1980.
The Peña will be an evening of
remembering, of honouring, of song and of celebration, because despite it all,
we are still here.
¡Es la lo
que nos memoria no salva!
¡¡NO AL
OLVIDO!!
