(B) ELECTION NOTES
-----------------------------------------------------------

* ENVIRONMENT MISSING FROM ELECTION PLATFORMS
- Environmental groups say Canada's two leading political parties
aren't talking about environmental issues, even though polls
indicate they're a priority for Canadians. The Alliance green
platform is only four paragraphs long. And the environment barely
made it at all into the Liberal election platform. Full story at:
http://www.life.ca/nl/76/election.html

* TAKING BACK THE POLITICAL AGENDA - The Council of
Canadians has launched a national campaign urging voters to "take
back the political agenda" from the country's corporate leaders and
warning that lack of a meaningful choice in the current election
threatens to push Canada in the direction of a U.S.-style two-party
system, with negative implications for the environment and social
programs. Full story at: http://www.life.ca/nl/76/council.html

* MARKHAM MUNICIPAL CANDIDATES -
ENVIRONMENTAL PLATFORMS. Markham Environmental
Alliance has submitted three questions (air quality/transport, the
future of farming, waste management) to all candidates for mayor,
regional & Town council. All responses will be posted.
