[OPIRG-EVENTS] Nigeria Event Tomorrow!




You are invited to join the Sierra Club of Canada and Dr. Owens Wiwa for an
evening of remembrance, solidarity and imagery, marking the 5th anniversary
of the death of Ken Saro-Wiwa, Nigerian environmental and social justice
activist.

Tomorrow! Wednesday November 15, 2000, 7pm
University of Ottawa, Room 205 University Centre
(between Montpetit Hall and the Central Library)

Speaking will be: Dr. Owens Wiwa, Ken’s brother, Elizabeth May, Executive
Director of the Sierra Club of Canada, and Sister McCarron, long time human
rights worker and close friend of Ken’s.  Images from Nigeria, MOSOP and Ken
’s extraordinary life will also be shown.

A poet, human rights & environmental activist, and President of the movement
for the Survival of the Ogoni People (MOSOP), Ken and 8 of his colleagues
were executed by the Nigerian Government five years ago for fighting to keep
their lands free of Shell Oil pollution.
