Human Rights Training for Rental Housing Providers :
What it’s all about:
The Centre for Equality Rights in Accommodation –
CERA- will be holding a training workshop for rental housing providers
in the Ottawa-Carleton. Our work over the years as advocates and
mediators for housing seekers has shown that many landlords, rental
housing agents, superintendents and property managers are often unaware
of their obligations under the Ontario Human Rights Code.
This training program is organized by the Barrier Elimination Work Group
of Ottawa-Carleton, a community stakeholder group to address the
problems of fairness in access and eviction in the existing stock of
rental housing. The work group was formed following recommendations in a
report of the Regional Municipality of Ottawa-Carleton entitled:
Creating Community Solutions: An Action Plan to Prevent & End
Homelessness in Ottawa-Carleton.
The training session for housing providers in the Ottawa-Carleton area
will cover 4 main areas:
· Barriers to fair selection of tenants faced by Landlords (Discussion)
· Prohibited grounds of discrimination
· Direct and constructive discrimination
· Processes and outcomes of the human rights complaint process
Where and when will the training session take place?
The training session will take place on February 23rd, 01
at Holland Cross [ 1590 Scott Street in the Large Conference Room]
The training workshop will start at 9.30 a.m until 12.00 p.m. There is
no fee for the workshop.
