Women and Environment:
 Case Studies From India

presented by
Shyamala Mani,
Centre for Environment Education, India

Thursday, March 29
2.00-4.00
1 Nicholas St., Suite 200, Ottawa

Marginalised Indian women face many environmental problems on a daily
basis - poor sanitation and housing, resource scarcity, exposure to
pollution and hazardous equipment. Shyamala Mani, Coordinator of the Delhi
branch of the Centre for Environment Education (CEE), has been working on
projects in rural and urban areas to improve women's physical and economic
environment. She will present two case studies - rural Karnataka and waste
retrievers in Bangalore - and outline a framework Northern NGOs and donors
can use when they approach these issues.
Ms Mani has worked for the CEE since 1987. She is completing her Ph D. in
Environmental Sciences at the Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi and has
published several papers on environmental management.

Limited seating! Please RSVP early with Ms. Judy Stott,
