Peace, Small Arms and Working Children

 Hemachandra Basappa is a prominent human rights and peace activist of
India. His focuses are civil liberties are law reforms in human rights. He
is a strong advocate for disarmament for development. He was the NGO
speaker before the UN Third Special session on Disarmament in 1988.

He works for the Concerned for Working Children in Bangalore. Other
organizations that he is involved with are: Gandhi Peace Foundation
(Executive Committee member), Pakistan India People Forum for Peace and
Democracy (Joint Convener of the Panel on Demilitarization), Citizen
Against Nuclear Power and Bangalore Platform Against Nuclear
Weaponization.

As one of the founder members of the Civil Society Network on Small Arms
in South Asia (SASAnet), he attended the United Nations Conference
on the Illicit Trade in Small Arms and Light Weapons in all its Aspects,
which is now taking place at the UN Headquarters in New York.
