[OPIRG-EVENTS] Guatemala Human Rights Talk: July 24




Reading and discussion by Professor George Lovell, author of "A Beauty That 
Hurts: Life and Death in Guatemala" 

Date: Tuesday, July 24th 

Place: The Church of the Ascension, 253 Echo Drive (Rideau Canal at Pretoria 
bridge), at 7:30 p.m.

Mr. Lovell's presentation will address the theme of the 2nd edition of his book, 
"A Beauty That Hurts": the current political situation in Guatemala, with a 
focus on human rights and the prospects for peace. 
This event is being organized by the GUATEMALA SOLIDARITY COMMITTEE OF OTTAWA 
(GUASCO).  As part of a national network, Guasco works to sensitize the 
Ottawa-Hull community to the challenges faced by Guatemalans in their struggle 
for justice in the aftermath of civil war.  Guasco's activities include Urgent 
Actions, public education, and active recruitment of volunteers for 
accompaniment in Guatemala.
