[OPIRG-EVENTS] OCAT NEEDS YOUR HELP!

	OCAT subcommittees and sectoral groups - we need you!

OCAT is in serious need of labour power to continue building the coalition
and it's presence in the Ottawa region to organize and mobilize for the
upcoming "The Long Retreat is Over: Fight to Win!" Economic Disruption
Campaign in the fall. All/any help in the division of labour would be
greatly appreciated!!! 

None of this subcommittee info is final!

I. 1. ORGANIZING/ACTION/COORDINATING COMMITTEE (7 - elected) 
Contact: heidi - hrimke@ccs.carleton.ca OR john - jhollingsworth@caut.ca
(at present)
-meetings (announces, minutes, facilities, agenda, etc)
-events (screenings, benefits, etc)
-finances
-OCAT facilities/rooms (for meetings, screenings, events, etc)
-general coordination
-Security 
-Training (Direct Action, Civil Disobedience, Medical)

**General Subcommittees Info**
-loosely formed (not set in stone) w/ area of focus - collaboration is key
-one-coordinator for each committee 
-can be rotating etc.
-don't need to be on the committee to contribute labour, ideas,
information, etc.
-have committees meet prior to general meetings 
-report on committee work at GM
-primary work based on supporting actions approved at GMs

2. MEDIA/COMMUNICATIONS (8-10 - open) 
Contact:  WE NEED A COORDINATOR FOR THIS SUB-COMMITTEE!
-website development and maintenance
-list-serve
-phone list of members who do not have email access, responsibility for
contact, phone tree
-contact database management
-OCAT communiques and letters (external correspondence)
-PR and media relations (radio, TV, newspapers, etc.) in liaison with
organizing/action/coordinating committee
-recoding/digitizing public meetings
-action alerts, publicity work
-printing posters, leaflets, stickers
-leafleting, postering

3. OUTREACH/ALLIES COMMITTEE (8-10 - open)
Contact: Heidi - hrimke@ccs.carleton.ca
-contacting communities, groups, inds (everybody should ideally be doing
this - talking to others)
-educate, inform and enlist already established groups/orgs in support of
ED campaign and involvement in OCAT
-gain endorsements
-education, info, build solidarity locally/regionally, mutual support, etc
-bring max. # into OCAT/EDC fold
-specific sectoral outreach activities, e.g. labour, FN, Sudanese,
students, homeless, anti-globalization, anti-poverty, social justice grps,
food banks, soup kitchens, shelters, YMCA, Cuba-Canada connections?,
political groups (CPC, SI, etc.), environmental groups? Women's groups?
Faith-based? Others?

4. RESEARCH COMMITTEE (6-8 - open)
Contact: Noel (heidi in the interim - hrimke@ccs.carleton.ca)
-provide info/text/images for OCAT/EDC (leaflets, posters, stickers)
-research successful' direct actions? Potential targets in Ottawa?
-research effects of Harris Regime on Ottawa and Ontario
-gets FACTS for public consumption  

5. AD HOC ACTIONS COMMITTEE (open)
-For the Rockcliffe Action Contact: Brian - bmcdouga@ccs.carleton.ca
-committee to organize general support for actions as needed, starting
with the planning of the Rockcliffe action in September
-committee to organize transportation to Toronto for O16 Action
-post O16 ECONOMIC DISRUPTION actions

II. Sectoral Working Groups 
-unionized - Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE)
           - Canadian Auto Workers (CAW)
	   - Public Transpo (ATU)
           - Teachers (OSSTF)
           - Canadian Union of  Postal Workers (CUPW)
           - Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC)
           - others? 
-anti-poverty
-homeless
-political groups
-environmental groups
-NDP
-women's groups
-students
-immigrant communities
-others?

Note:  Sectoral Working Groups are affinity-based groups that can
form as  needed within the umbrella of the Coalition, establish priorities
for sectoral actions, and report on their ideas for actions to the GM
and/or Coordinating Committee. 

The GM empowers other committees to work on supporting specific actions
that sectoral groups come up with that are approved and prioritized by it.
