[OPIRG-EVENTS] Parks of the Little Bonnechere: CPAWS-OV Wilderness Wednesday

CPAWS-OV Wilderness Wednesday
February 6 at 7:00 p.m.
at 203 Richmond Road (Bushtakah Store), Ottawa

Topic: Parks of the Little Bonnechere.
Feature of the evening will be a talk and slide presentation by
Mark Stabb,
a planner currently involved in formulation of the Management
Plan for
Little Bonnechere River Provincial Park, adjacent to Algonquin
Park. In
addition, there will be a discussion of CPAWS park management
issues, with
an emphasis on parks and protected areas in the Ottawa Valley.

Details of Mark Stabb's presentation:
Join biologist and Ontario provincial park planner, Mark Stabb,
on a tour of
three provincial parks in the upper reaches of the Bonnechere
River, a
stretch of river know historically as the "Little Bonnechere".
Bonnechere
and Foy Property Provincial Parks are recreation class parks,
whose fine
sand beaches grace the shores of Round Lake. Bonnechere River
Provincial
Park is a waterway class park that links these parks to Algonquin
Park to
the north. Although "wilderness" and whitewater are in somewhat
short
supply, wildness abounds here, as do opportunities for peaceful
flatwater
paddling, accessible hiking to scenic vistas, wildlife viewing,
and natural
and cultural heritage appreciation. If you have visited the area
before,
come to learn about the joint management plan currently being
created (with
CPAWS' involvement) for the three parks. If you haven't been
there yet, come
to see what you've been missing!
