[OPIRG-EVENTS] Demo: End the Occupation of Palestine

Hello friends,

Palestinian activists with Solidarity for Palestinian Human Rights (SPHR) are
holding a rally to protest Israel's bloody occupation of Palestinian towns and
villages in the West Bank and Gaza Strip. The rally is this Sat. at noon. In
light of the recent massacres that have taken place by the Israeli war
machine, we are asking our allies in the anti-globalization and
anti-imperialist movements to join us in an emergency demonstration in support
of the Palestinian people. It is essential that every person of conscience be
there to express their outrage against the Occupation.

WHERE: Saturday March 16
WHEN: Start 12 Noon Till 2:00pm
PLACE: Major Hill Park (corner of York st. and Sussex St) ending at the Human
Rights Monument (corner of Lisgar and Elgin)

THIS IS A PEACEFUL EVENT. We ask that you respect the wishes of the
Palestinian community and their allies that there be no confrontation with
police or pro-Israel counter-protesters. We demand that the police similarly
respect our right to protest, free of state harrassment or violence.

BELOW IS THE LATEST REPORT OF from Israeli anti-war activists with GUSH
SHALOM. For more details and pictures of recent events please visit

The "Union of Palestinian Medical Relief Committees"
and "Physicians for Human Rights - Israel"
jointly appeal for an end to the humanitarian
nightmare in the Palestinian territories.
Ramallah is now under complete occupation,
120 tanks are present on the streets,
and both helicopters and tanks are bombarding different neighborhoods with
missiles. Two hospitals, the Ramallah Hospital and Ramallah Maternity
Hospital,
have been fired upon by Israeli troops.
Also, as in many places in the West Bank and Gaza Strip,
soldiers have this morning fired upon two ambulances in Ramallah.
Additionally the Israeli army is preventing
access to medical care for the sick and wounded,
by forbidding their movement to hospital,
and also by refusing medical teams access to them for treatment at the scene.
Clearly, preventing access to the wounded will lead to more deaths;
preventing sick people from receiving treatment will also contribute to more
deaths.

We urgently demand action from the world -
international and humanitarian organizations must immediately force the
Israeli government to halt this atrocity.
We call upon you to demonstrate, to call governmental representatives,
to take any action that will allow Palestinian wounded and ill to receive
medical treatment - preventing more unnecessary deaths.
We also plead for foreign governments to act to bring an immediate halt to
this aggression by the Israeli army,
and an end to this humanitarian crisis.
