Join the MASS APPEAL to SAVE PUBLIC MEDICARE

A generation ago, Canadians created National Public Medicare. It wasn't
easy. The multinational insurance industry, the for-profit health industry
and others opposed the building of this public program that limited their
profits. But ordinary Canadians prevailed.

What an achievement! Nothing less than Canada's greatest social transfer,
Public Medicare has saved millions of lives, has relieved suffering for
untold numbers of Canadians, and has enabled countless among us to improve
our quality of life.

Medicare is now under threat like it has never been before. In the face of
a huge and coordinated attempt by representatives of private business to win
more access to Canada's health care "market," Roy Romanow, Chair of the
Commission on the Future of Public Health Care in Canada (Romanow
Commission) has said "everything is on the table" including proposals for
privatizing the payment for Medicare and for moving significant elements
out of public control and into the hands of for-profit corporations.

Romanow has invited Canadians to come forward and express our views and our
values while he travels the country hearing from Canadians before he makes
final recommendations for the future of Medicare this fall. Putting
everything on the table threatens the future of our universally accessible
Public Medicare system. But it also provides us with an opportunity to
shore up Medicare, to stop its erosion, and to rebuild and strengthen it for
the future.

The Romanow Health Care Commission is also requesting the public's input
into its work through an on-line survey. It takes about 15 minutes to
complete. The survey has its shortcomings - it offers only four scenarios
for change and the 'final thoughts' section does not allow for blending
answers, but this is an opportunity for individuals across the country to
influence the Commission's recommendations.

Go to the red bar that says "CLICK HERE TO BEGIN THE WORKBOOK"

Be sure to take the time to participate - let's not allow those who want to
destroy our health care system to dominate the process.
