[OPIRG-EVENTS] FW: Invitation to a Public Forum on the Philippines - Tues. May 14 @ 6:30 pm






The Ontario Committee for Human rights in the Philippines and Pilipino 
Migrante sa Canada (PMSC) invite you to a Public Forum this coming Tuesday 
May 14th (6:30 pm).  The forum entitled
Reflections on American Troops in the Philippines will take place at the 
First United Church (397 Kent Ave).  The discussion features:

Capt Danilo Vizmanos (Ret)

Dan describes himself as the typical "American boy" who considered the 
United States as the liberator of the Philippines.  Now retired, Captain 
Danilo Vizmanos is one of those actively calling for the immediate 
withdrawal of US troops from the country.

Dan is the Secretary General of SELDA an organization of former political 
detainees, and he was a leader in the campaign to oust the US bases from the

Philippines.

Sharon Rose Joy Ruiz-Duremdes,
Sharon is the General Secretary of the National Council of Churches in the 
Philippines.  She graduated from the Berkeley Baptist Divinity School in 
California, USA in 1973 and was a member of Faculty at the Central 
Philippine University, College of Theology.  In 1984, at the height of the 
Marcos dictatorship, she joined the people's movement for social 
transformation.
